Octomerge

Octomerge emerged from a Friday deploy
A rebased hotfix that failed to enjoy
Production’s embrace.
His tentacled face
Just watched the whole pipeline destroy.

He force-pushed over a critical fix
While whispering git-lore—dirty tricks.
The hotfix was gone,
The main branch withdrawn,
And the changelog looped in the mix.

He rebases his own PRs first,
Before reviews—that’s the worst.
The team never saw
The diff, raw and raw,
And the merge was recursively cursed.

Please resolve conflicts before I
Resolve you,” he’d say with a sigh.
His tentacles spread
Through each detached HEAD,
And the README just wanted to cry.

He left behind six detached HEADs
In a deprecated GitLab—like threads
Of an ancient web,
Each commit at ebb,
And a sad README lost in the dreads.

He annotates haunted commit logs
With ASCII tentacles, like cogs
Of a broken machine.
Each message obscene,
And the history: murky as bogs.

He feeds on unresolved changelogs
Each conflict, a feast. He just dogs
Every spaghetti graph,
Each fractured diff path,
And the merge queue sinks into the fogs.

Every timeline matters,” he said,
“Even the broken ones.” (He’s not dead.)
He just incubates
The conflicting fates,
And the branches remain in his stead.

So if git logs look like spaghetti
In fractals—recursive confetti—
That’s Octomerge’s reign:
Where the branches abstain
From resolving. He’s always already.
