Rest-Shaped Feelings

They recognized rest as a need,
Then allowed it to live as a seed.
No interval came,
But the label had name,
Which the minutes considered a deed.

The pause had the shape of relief,
But the schedule retained all its teeth.
It looked restful in speech,
Just remained out of reach,
Like a chair drawn in chalk underneath.

Exhaustion was tenderly heard,
Then returned to the same working herd.
They validated strain,
Did not loosen the chain,
And called that a humane little word.

They say that the files will arrange,
In patterns confusing and strange.
The sorting is deep,
While administrators sleep,
An ancient and mystical change.

Two records were swapped in the list,
A terrible twist of the wrist!
The state is destroyed,
We plunge in the void,
And panic is hard to resist!

The algorithm parses the queue,
And organizes old into new.
The index is mapped,
The changes are wrapped,
The cycle completes as is due.

The item was moved to the right,
And kept in the registry’s sight.
The pointers aver,
The changes occur,
We exit the loop for the night.

To process a standard request,
The software will run a quick test.
It scans the new drive,
At a quarter to five,
And logs it away with the rest.
