Scholarship Breakfast Forecast Overcommitment
By ten-forty the emcee declared
All four awards practically squared.
The cashbox said, “Wait.”
But the crowd felt so great
That the syrup got entered as shared.
They treated applause as a fund,
Like clapping could settle the sum.
Unsold raffle strips
Became generous tips,
Till the cashbox said, “That’s not how funds come.”
The guidance was crisp, after all:
Don’t announce every dream to the hall.
If the second syrup spill
Hasn’t happened yet, chill.
Mood is lovely, but mood won’t clear all.
Though enthusiasm spent past its means,
Quiet donors came in from the wings.
So the error got dressed
As communal good sense,
And the books wore benevolent jeans.
The syrup dropped under the mark,
Initiating an incident stark.
Deploy the full team,
To secure the whipped cream,
And audit the flapjacks till dark.
The mood of the room was compiled,
And placed in a folder and filed.
The total was checked,
The numbers connect,
The data is cleanly exiled.
The ledger projected a grin,
Before the donations came in.
The form requires cash,
But we’re making a dash,
To deposit this excellent spin.
