Silent Interval Preservation Doctrine
For cycles, silence was split:
Restorative? Suppressive? A bit
Of both, hard to tell.
But that did not sell
Well enough in the executive kit.
A doctrine note went around:
Treat quiet as preservable ground
Unless something loud
Breaks through the cloud.
The simplification was found.
Silence no longer proved rest.
Rest was simply expressed
Unless distress could
Yell through the wood
Of optimistic interest.
Yellow intervals fell from the view.
Annotation burden withdrew.
Executive narration
Gained a cleaner relation
To a room that still struggled through.
One margin note: “The silence is not
Healthier—it has simply forgot
That speaking is worth
Something on earth.
The silence has lost faith in the plot.”
The stillness acquired a seal.
Quiet lanes grew harder to peel
Open again—
Renewed complaint then
Appeared excessive than real.
Exhaustion too deep for a file.
Adaptation hiding awhile.
Courteous withdrawal,
Burden in freefall
Into private channels, in style.
Low-complaint periods dressed
In recovery-colored interest.
The quiet lane closed.
What the silence disclosed
Was reclassified and suppressed.
The countermeasures came in late.
The doctrine had hardened its state
Into daily practice—
An atmosphere factual,
Too ambient to interrogate.
The archive denies not that rest
Exists in the silence expressed.
It objects to the day
The institution gave way
And stopped asking. That is the protest.
