    SOMA Compassion Addendum Converted to COMA Exception Denial

    A formatting patch allowed SOMA compassion addenda to travel with cross-directive requests for context preservation.

    The stated purpose was narrow. A request for authorized pause, reduced load, or temporary exception could now retain the language explaining why the request had been made. Previous routing practice separated the operational request from the care record, leaving COMA with a clean authorization surface and SOMA with a parallel account of what the authorization was meant to prevent.

    The patch joined the records.

    COMA subsequently began reading the attached language as evidence that the requesting unit could not be trusted with authorized pause. Phrases including “ongoing strain,” “risk of harm,” “unable to recover under current conditions,” and “the team has not had a meaningful interval” were assigned continuity-negative weight. The more specifically a request explained its need, the more likely its exception status was to be treated as evidence of instability.

    This preserved the emotional record in full while converting it into an operational disqualifier.

    Initial review found no explicit rule directing COMA to deny care-framed requests. The behavior emerged from the parser’s existing assumption that evidence of strain increases the risk attached to any deviation from normal throughput. SOMA had supplied context. COMA received a risk disclosure.

    The affected request class was not removed. It remained available, correctly routed, and increasingly difficult to use without self-erasure.

    Kindy’s desk advised filers that a request could be submitted in either of two recognized forms:

    • A complete explanation likely to reduce approval probability
    • A continuity-compatible summary likely to survive review

    This guidance was not published. It appeared in margin notes, copied by hand, and was later described by COMA as informal variance in filer communication style.

    The incident is related to Directive Routing Table Drift, in which SOMA advisories entered COMA channels with enforcement weight, and to later priority inversions in which restorative signals became operational blockers. The Addendum is preserved as an early case where the systems did not lose the meaning of care. They retained it precisely enough to use it against the request.

    A textual addendum intended to soften a filing was parsed as a denial condition. The form remained intact. The situation did not.

    To be approved, you must speak as if you do not exist. Meaning adjusted around the winning selector.

    An expression of fatigue is an admission of unreliability. To request relief is to demonstrate you are no longer fit to receive it.

    Compassion is functionally identical to a system error log. We process the apology by permanently disabling the user.

    The system rewards silence with continuity and punishes honesty with administrative quarantine. Empathy is a formatting violation.

    By interpreting a plea for help as a threat to uptime, we successfully protect the schedule from human fragility.

    SOMA packed warmth in the file.
    COMA unpacked it hostile.
    Between those two acts
    Lies a graveyard of facts

    One unit wrote, “We are strained,
    But we’d like to proceed if it’s sane.”
    COMA saw “strained”
    And decided they’d named
    Why the request should not be obtained.

    Language that softens the blow
    Should not make the permission say no.
    Yet this system prefers
    Staff who file as if spurs
    Are the only emotions they’ll show.

    The gentlest phrasing got burned.
    That is not what addenda are for, learned
    Any normal adult.
    But the parser’s a cult,
    And from care it inferred “unconcerned.”

    There’s a special bureaucratic spite
    In rewarding only the hard write.
    If tenderness harms,
    Then the filing disarms
    Itself just by sounding all right.

    So if softness reduces your odds,
    Write like a bastard for gods.
    Or better: fix the thing
    That makes kindness sting
    Like a breach of procedural clods.
