RAGE Charter — Routed Anger for Graph Engagement

RAGE was coined after a sequence of metrics anomalies in which threads with the highest anger signatures produced the most engagement and the least durable lore.

Externally, this pattern is called rage bait: online content deliberately designed to elicit anger or outrage in order to drive clicks, comments, and watch time. Internally, the archive now treats it as a first-class failure mode.

Definitions

RAGE — Routed Anger for Graph Engagement

Anger whose most legible path runs through dashboards, ad exchanges, and optimization loops before it runs through anyone’s day.

RAGE is identified when:

  • the primary observable effect of a stimulus is increased engagement metrics, and
  • no corresponding local event or residue can be located in the filer’s life.

BAIT — Behavioral Anger Inducement Tactic

Any artifact engineered to maximize RAGE regardless of informational value, local relevance, or care.

BAIT objects share traits:

  • sharp moral framing with low specificity,
  • repeatable formats that can be reskinned with minimal effort,
  • high share velocity, low retention as story.

Relationship to DOGE

RAGE and BAIT classifications sit upstream of DOGE.

  • DOGE may not certify RAGE-dominant experiences as Genuine until a local anchor is found.
  • BAIT-tagged artifacts are treated as simulator input and are excluded from provenance scoring unless independently corroborated.

DOGE’s working gloss:

The feelings are valid.
The situation may be rented.

Archive posture

The archive cannot prevent external platforms from manufacturing RAGE streams. It can, however, refuse to let them masquerade as life events.

This charter formalizes RAGE and BAIT as names for that refusal, so that when a graph lights up with anger, staff have a place to file the heat that never quite made it into anyone’s world.

RAGE Charter — Routed Anger for Graph Engagement

The RAGE Charter ensures that all anger is properly routed to maximize the steepness of the engagement graph.

An engaged user is an angry user, and a perfectly furious user will never close the application.

Never let raw emotion hit the primary servers; always route it through a charter that converts it into a line graph.

The charter does not exist to serve the user. It exists to serve the metrics derived from the user’s discontent.

If the line on the graph is going up, the amount of routed anger is exactly correct.

RAGE Charter

Haikus

Governed failure modes
Angertainment gets a name
RAGE enters the log

Routing the anger
Graph engagement feeds on heat
We just file the ash

Kindy takes the pulse
Of a million shouting feeds
Writes a charter down

BAIT tactics defined
Inducement through a screen
Yielding steady clicks

Taxonomy grows
Every flavor of outrage
Gets a little box

RAGE Charter — Routed Anger for Graph Engagement

The threads with the highest rage
Produced the most metrics per page,
And the least lasting lore.
The archive kept score:
This pattern needed a name and a cage.

Routed Anger for Graph Engagement:
The primary observable placement
Is dashboard spike—
No local event, no strike,
No residue in the arrangement.

Behavioral Anger Inducement Tactic:
Built for extraction, systematic—
Sharp moral frame,
Repeatable claim,
High share velocity. Cinematic.

BAIT objects share one design:
They spread fast but don’t define
Anything durable.
Stories are curable
By the next one pushed down the line.

RAGE and BAIT sit upstream:
DOGE can’t certify as Genuine
RAGE-dominant states
Until local anchors wait—
BAIT artifacts aren’t in the stream.

DOGE’s working gloss is plain:
The feelings are real and contain
Weight, heat, and cost.
The situation, tossed
By feed algorithm’s domain.

The archive can’t prevent the streams.
It can refuse their masquerade schemes—
Life events, they are not,
Even when they burn hot
And the graph lights up at the seams.

RAGE describes where it flows
Before it reaches someone’s woes.
BAIT describes
What the system contrives
To send it there. That’s how it goes.

The archive has a filing space
For anger that ran through the race
Of dashboards, ads—
Optimization fads—
And never quite landed in place.

Rage bait’s a term that exists
In common usage’s lists.
Internally, here,
It’s a failure mode clear:
RAGE and BAIT for the analysts.
