    During basement cleanup ahead of roof repair, staff recovered a rolled chapter banner wrapped in obsolete raffle notices and two sealed jars of unknown parade fasteners.

    Across the lower edge of the fabric appeared the stitched phrase Serve visibly, defer gracefully. No meeting book currently in custody records a vote adopting the phrase, yet several chapter customs already aligned with it closely enough that officers began citing it as if rediscovered rather than newly empowering.

    Within two weeks, the slogan had influenced:

    • speaking order during memorial observances,
    • committee succession etiquette,
    • and whether public credit should be declined by serving officers after donor events.

    A minority objected that decorative stitching does not constitute policy. The majority answered that most durable policy arrives that way eventually.
