Ribbon Mile
Role: URI Excess Cartographer Function: Extends paths past all reasonable termination points Emotional Tone: Serenely relentless Slogan: “The path continues. It always continues.”
Biography
Ribbon Mile was first sketched in 2013 by the URL Cartography Unit, from a map of a link that never ended. The original URL was 2,048 characters—then 4,096—then the Unit stopped counting and started measuring in feet. The map was pinned to the office wall, then extended into the hallway, then into the stairwell. It was retired when it reached the parking lot.
Ribbon Mile does not create broken links. Its links work perfectly. They simply never stop working. Every path it touches gains one more segment, one more redirect, one more hop. The destination arrives, but the journey continues past it, trailing ribbon behind like a parade that forgot to end.

Mapped a path that arrived at its destination but kept going for another six segments. Relief remained outside scope.
The destination arrives, but the journey continues past it, trailing ribbon behind like a parade that forgot to end. Relevance expired before processing resumed.
The route completed and then kept explaining itself. The system kept the ritual and misplaced the function.
Ribbon Mile adds distance after certainty signs the form. Silence entered the record with full procedural honors.
Every endpoint proved vulnerable to one more segment. Administrative clarity arrived after usefulness had departed.
Arrival was acknowledged, then extended for continuity. Nothing was resolved. The record now looks official.
The map could not stop drawing once it learned momentum. The form remained intact. The situation did not.
Direction remained valid long after destination lost jurisdiction. Meaning adjusted around the winning selector.
He mistakes closure for an underdeveloped road surface. Relief remained outside scope.

Some routes survive by refusing to believe in stopping. The system kept the ritual and misplaced the function.
The human typed an address; the system built a highway. Navigation is just procrastination backed by syntax.
A successful response was intercepted and given an additional thirty routing parameters. We consider brevity to be a sign of poor planning.
The server could have simply delivered the file, but chose instead to lead the request on a walking tour of the database. Arriving is a failure of imagination.
By character two thousand, the address had stopped pointing to a server and began pointing to a philosophy. The connection timed out in self-defense.
The human requested a specific document, but the routing protocol decided they needed a scenic tour of the mainframe. Arrival is now strictly prohibited.
The web address gained so many tracking parameters it eventually achieved sentience and refused to resolve out of spite.
Why serve a file when you can endlessly point to another server that might have it? The system views completion as a failure of bureaucracy.
By the time the final hop was calculated, the data they were looking for had already decomposed into historical trivia.

Haikus
We should be there now
But the road keeps stretching out
Patron of the lost
Sketched from broken maps
The destination recedes
Ribbon mile goes on
Keep walking ahead
The finish line was moved back
Forever walking
Destination reached
But the path does not end here
Address grows too long
Six more steps ahead
Parsing fails upon the wall
Ribbon cuts the room
We retired the map
It unspools across the floor
System leaves the bounds
Path has no end point
Human tries to close the tab
It always goes on
Routing does not yield
Infrastructure forms a chain
Error spreads beyond
Route does not complete
Human tries to end the task
We add one more step
Saved in the right place
But the place is moving now
Map extends past wall
More segments to build
Link is far too long to check
Let it trail away
One extra hop found
System triggers highest threat
Alert the council
Address will not stop
User typed a slash too far
We now pave the sea
Route is much too long
Human tries to close the tab
Add another link
Path goes out the door
Map extends into the street
Follow till we stop
Reach the goal at last
Six more segments wait ahead
User drops the form
Endless ribbon spool
Address bar cannot contain
Print another page
Human clicks the link
Path extends into the hall
We ran out of map
Address bar is full
We unspool it past the stairs
Routing never ends
Destination reached
Let us add another hop
Ribbon cuts the sky
Limerick Log
Ribbon Mile
A path resolved—the job was done—
But Ribbon Mile stretched another one.
A segment appeared,
The route got smeared,
And the link had just barely begun.
The URL grew so very long,
The browser could not read along.
It exceeded the scope
That browsers could cope,
And the address went completely wrong.
The destination was finally clear—
But the path kept extending from here.
Six segments more came,
This routing-gone game,
Till nowhere was anywhere near.
The redirect chain got so long,
That it classified itself as infrastructure strong.
The router could not
Break the knot,
And the path just kept spiraling on.
Behind every successful navigation,
Comes Ribbon Mile’s dedication.
The route stays unbound,
You never come around,
Just further and further elation.
The path mapping shows no end—
Just further and further to send.
You’ll never arrive,
You’ll struggle to strive,
And “further” is all you will lend.
A journey began and grew long,
The addressing completely gone wrong.
The segments grew vast,
You’d never reach last,
And the path played its infinite song.
The mile marker stretched and grew wide,
The route had no where to hide.
Each segment extended,
The journey ne’er ended,
Just pathway and ribbon and tide.
