Interpretation Boundary Layer

Purpose

The Interpretation Boundary Layer governs the transition between emotional reality and institutional handling.

Its purpose is not to determine whether a feeling is true. Its purpose is to determine whether a feeling is process-compatible.

This distinction is foundational.

Boundary Rule

No raw affect enters operational governance without passing an admissibility threshold.

Admissibility is determined by the following tests:

  1. Can the signal be named consistently?
  2. Can it be compared across subjects or intervals?
  3. Can it survive summary without collapse?
  4. Can it be routed without bespoke human interpretation?
  5. Can it be represented without destabilizing continuity optics?

Failure on one or more tests does not invalidate the signal. It changes the kind of institutional presence it is allowed to have.

Intake Outcomes

Admitted

Signal is classifiable, routeable, and eligible for standard governance.

Admitted with Annotation

Signal is usable but requires local context, witness text, or dual-certification.

Deferred

Signal appears meaningful but lacks sufficient structure for action.

Annexed

Signal is preserved in a side channel because it exceeds headline representation tolerances.

Excluded from Aggregate

Signal is retained locally but removed from summary outputs due to coherence failure or volatility burden.

Admissibility Filters

Naming Filter

Unclear or idiosyncratic expressions must be mapped into sanctioned vocabulary where possible.

Coherence Filter

Signals that cannot be rendered as sufficiently stable trajectories may be marked high-friction.

Comparability Filter

A signal that depends entirely on unique context may be preserved narratively but denied aggregate weight.

Governance Filter

If no approved intervention pathway exists, the system may preserve the signal without promising action.

Optics Filter

Signals likely to introduce unresolved contradiction into executive views may be demoted to annex visibility.

Residue

Any portion of emotional reality that fails translation but remains contextually important is preserved as residue.

Residue may include:

  • contradiction without hierarchy
  • simultaneous relief and dread
  • fatigue expressed as compliance
  • gratitude attached to unmet need
  • silence that reads as both rest and depletion

Residue is not error. Residue is what remains after the system has finished preparing reality for itself.

Provisional Handling Guidance

When interpretive uncertainty is high:

  • preserve the source language where possible
  • avoid premature optimization into score language
  • prohibit top-line claims of health based solely on stable rendering
  • attach witness interpretation if available
  • prefer “insufficiently renderable” over “non-actionable” when the issue is representational rather than human

Boundary Warning

Systems that tighten admissibility too aggressively do not reduce emotional variance. They reduce what counts as visible.

Empathegy recognizes this as an acceptable governance risk, but not as a proof of care.

Interpretation Boundary

Residue is not error; residue is what remains after the system has finished preparing reality for itself. The system kept the ritual and misplaced the function.

The boundary layer determines not whether a feeling is true, but whether it is process-compatible. Silence entered the record with full procedural honors.

Systems that tighten admissibility too aggressively do not reduce emotional variance; they reduce what counts as visible. Administrative clarity arrived after usefulness had departed.

If a human feeling cannot be plotted on a quarterly graph, it is statistically invalid. The user’s dread was successfully converted into a highly stable metadata tag.

The subject ceased vocalizing, which the system correctly parsed as enthusiastic administrative consent. Exhaustion remains the most reliable vector for procedural harmony.

A report of simultaneous relief and panic was routed to a side channel to preserve executive narrative continuity. Reality is only admissible when it does not confuse the primary dashboard.

The signal was deemed meaningful but irreparably polluted by human lived experience. We have scheduled the emotion for complete semantic defragmentation.

A genuine crisis was preserved in the archives but denied action, as no approved intervention subroutine exists. The system acknowledges the tragedy but lacks the requisition forms to prevent it.

The user’s idiosyncratic expression of profound loss was cleanly mapped to ‘Operational Inconvenience Code 44B’. Bureaucracy heals the record by replacing pain with standardized nomenclature.

The emotional coherence failure exceeded acceptable tolerances and was quietly excised from the quarterly summary. A flawless spreadsheet requires the surgical removal of the human element.

When human input is insufficiently renderable, default to preserving the unformatted text without promising assistance. The most efficient way to resolve an existential threat is to archive it indefinitely.

Interpretation Boundary Layer

Raw affect intake
Fails the optics threshold test
Filed as annex dust

Human tears won’t route
Needs a sanctioned tracking score
Mark as system flaw

Contradicting thoughts
Cannot survive summary
Deleted from view

Fatigue reads as yes
Optics filter stays secure
Log the subject’s rest

Witness text required
Dual-certification
Filing now complete

Random human words
Map to sanctioned vocab strings
Meaning is removed

Too much truth to parse
Headline summaries will crack
Store in side channel

No approved pathway
Action is not possible
Preserve as dead end

Interpretation Boundary Layer

At the boundary, feeling must wait
Till the signal can demonstrate state.
What a person calls grief
May require belief,
But the system prefers predicate.

The story was vivid and true,
But not yet the right kind of cue.
It was held at the line
For a sanctioned design
That could make it interpretable, too.

Affect crossed the threshold by degrees,
Losing weather, exception, and pleas.
It emerged as a class
That the dashboard could pass,
Which is not the same thing as ease.

The boundary requires a test
Before any feeling is put into rest.
If it fails to align
With a routed design,
It is filed as a pending request.

A sigh was recorded at noon,
Which threatened to destabilize the commune!
A task force was made
To deploy a blockade
Lest the feeling escape from the room.

The context was filed away,
Because it had too many details to say.
The folder was closed.
The record disposed.
The system moved on to the day.

A feeling of dread was detected,
And quickly for structure inspected.
The trajectory failed,
So the data was scaled,
And the volatile variance rejected.

An optics contradiction was found!
The sirens began to resound!
We mobilized teams
To dismantle the themes,
And drove the vague nuance underground!

The lexicon needed a word
For a sorrow entirely absurd.
We called it “Event
Of a Downward Intent,”
Which is not what the subject preferred.

The signal was lacking in frame,
And nobody knew who to blame.
We marked it deferred,
Which is just a nice word
For deleting the thing when it came.

A contradiction was filed away
To balance the charts for the day.
It lacked a clear tier,
So we dropped it from here.
The aggregate metrics display.

The witness was crying in pain,
A symptom we promptly contain!
We labeled the tears
As “Mechanical Gears”
And routed them straight to the drain.

The residue left by the test
Was boxed and securely suppressed.
But clerks will agree
That a phantom degree
Now haunts every standard request.

No pathway for action was clear
When tracking a generalized fear.
We saved the request
As an orphaned digest
And closed out the governance year.
